Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Tazkir, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. What Tazkir is — and is not

Tazkir assists Qur’ān memorisation and recitation practice. It is a learning aid and does not replace a qualified teacher or a recognised method of Qur’ānic instruction. Tazkir never alters the Qur’ānic text.

The coach uses automatic speech recognition, which is not perfect. It may flag a word you recited correctly, or miss a mistake you made. We deliberately say “unclear” rather than guess when we are not confident — but treat its feedback as guidance to check with a teacher, not as a ruling. Do not rely on Tazkir alone to certify your recitation.

2. Your account

• You must be 13 or over to create an account. Tazkir is currently offered in the United Kingdom only.
• If you are under 18, please use Tazkir with the knowledge of a parent or guardian.
• Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account per person. Do not share credentials.
• We cannot currently reset a forgotten password. Please keep your login details safe. (We intend to add password recovery; until we do, a lost password means a lost account.)

3. Acceptable use

Please do not: use Tazkir to abuse, harass or impersonate anyone; attempt to break, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service, or bypass its limits; automate access without our written permission; upload audio you do not have the right to submit, or anything unlawful; or use Tazkir to produce or distribute a text that purports to be the Qur’ān but is altered. We may suspend or remove an account that does these things.

4. Your recitations and your data

How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: recordings are analysed and discarded, never stored, unless you explicitly choose to share a specific recitation.

• You keep all rights in your own voice and recitations. Sharing is optional, per-clip, and revocable.
• If you do share a recitation, you grant us permission to use that clip to measure and improve Tazkir’s accuracy — not to publish it, play it to other users, or sell it. You may withdraw at any time; we will delete the recording and exclude it from future model training. As we state at the point of consent, a model already trained on a recording cannot be un-trained.

5. Availability, changes, and early access

Tazkir is in early access. It may be unavailable, slow, or change without notice, and features may be added or removed. We may impose reasonable usage limits to keep the service working for everyone. We do not promise any particular level of availability.

6. Ending your use

• You may stop at any time and delete your account and data from Settings → Privacy → “Delete my data”. Deletion is permanent.
• We may suspend or end access if you breach these terms, or if we discontinue the service.

7. Third-party materials

• Qur’ān text: Tanzil Project, used verbatim and unmodified (enforced by a checksum in our code), with attribution.
• Arabic font: Amiri Quran, under the SIL Open Font License.

8. Liability

Tazkir is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any reliance placed on the coach’s feedback in place of a qualified teacher.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

10. Changes to these terms

If we make a material change we will tell you in the app and update the effective date above. Continuing to use Tazkir after a change means you accept the updated terms.
